Each month we'll be picking someone from
the list of completed questionnaire to win something cool and exotic from
wherever we happen to be. So don't miss out, fill out a questionnaire and
be entered to win. (And what's better, we've completely decided to waive
the stipulation that you must be present to win.)
Winners will be notified by email and will be announced here.
No more drawings, folks! Sadly, the monthly notworkin.com drawings have come to a close. A big thanks to everyone who participated. We both truly enjoyed reading all of the entries and having you all along for the ride.
how we choose our winners: this ain't the Oscars and we don't have an Ernst and Young dweeb shackled to a briefcase. We go on the web, find a random number generator, get it to pick a number between one and the number of entries we have, and voila, we have our winner.
december's lucky winner is Ethan Schmidt, Michael's year old nephew (who knew one year olds could type??). For his trouble (or rather, for his father's trouble), Ethan wins two pieces of hand painted Thai watercolor art, bought off the street from the artist himself. Janna picked them out and says they're good enough to be used in a children's picture book...high praise indeed. We both think they're really cool and hope Ethan and family like them...and display them (nicely framed, of course) prominently...not in the closet!
Congratulations Ethan!
our november winner is Maria C. Butler! Not only is Maria a self-confessed beach bum and loving aunt to Janna of notworkin.com, she's also the lucky winner of our November drawing. This month's prize is straight from the melting pot of Singapore:
Self-applying temporary henna tattoos for the palm of the hand. Indulge in the exotic sensuality (and medicinal value!) of mehendi, the ancient Indian body art!
An Indian costume bracelet with five rings attached by chains. Jingle and jangle your way to an Indian Christmas! Or Thanksgiving, or something.
Chinese paper "spirit money". This latter package includes a Hell Passport, an Otherworld Bank Credit Card, a Hell Airline Ticket, and a Hell Bank Chequebook worth simply squillions of yuan. These you must burn so that they may reach your ancestors in Hell, where spirit money is legal tender. I'm not suggesting your heritage is one of depravity, Maria. In this instance, hell is not an evil place run by the devil, but a place of learning while the spirit waits to be reborn. The more money we burn for our ancestors, the more luxuries they are able to enjoy there.
So light up, lady!
october's big winner is Patty Killian, a friend of Michael's from Chicago and travel companion of ours in South Africa. To refresh your memory, we stayed with Patty and her friend (and now our friend) Steven in Pretoria and had quite a few wild animal viewing adventures together.
For the cold Chicago winter coming up, Patty's getting a New Zealand ski cap, sure to turn her into a real Kiwi. Cheers Patty!
our September winner is...Erik Boyd, Michael's friend from Chicago! Erik (actor, singer, swing-dancer extordinaire) is the lucky winner of the Kiwi Kitchen Collection...a selection of fine New Zealand, um, stuff, for his, um, kitchen.
our August winner...Diane O'Neill, aka Deena Weena! Janna's bestest friend from Boston is the excited (she must be, right?) winner of a not just one but two cool items of real Zimbabwean art. First, a life-sized (if you're a cat) Zulu shield for warding off evil spirits (they'd better be small evil spirits). And second, a fine, handcrafted replica of (ahem) a baboon. Really, this thing just screams high class.
Dee-Dub will surely find herself struggling to decide how best to display her new collection of Zimbabwean curios and we look forward to hearing about the hours of fun she'll surely have.
our July winner...You know how things sometimes look fishy even when they're not? Well, we swear on George Washington's grave, but this contest ain't rigged. Honest. Anyway, this month's winner is Meredith Patneaude, um, Janna's Mom. Ok, we know Michael's mom won the first month, but, what can you do, a roll of the dice is a roll of the dice.
So yep, Meredith is the big winner of...a genuine, real-deal, one of a kind (not really) Nelson Mandela Rag Doll. A perfect addition, we're sure, to Meredith's World Leader Rag Doll collection (well, maybe she'll start one...hopefully she can find George Bush and Tony Blair somewhere) and a real class one at that. Sporting a very distinguished looking grey head of hair and a quite politically correct AIDS Awareness lapel pin, Nelson Doll will surely be the highlight of any room Meredith decides to place it in. (It better not be the closet, though).
Mrs. Janna's Mom has been alerted and Mr. Mandela will be on the way shortly. We look forward to hearing her, surely, joyful reaction to this exciting news.
Check back to this space where we hope to have a picture of Meredith with her new prize as well as some comments from our lucky winner.
our June winner is Cathy Gale (a friend and Pop Idol buddy of ours in london)! It's taken us a while to get this drawing done, but after loads of searching we've finally found the perfect gift and it couldn't be more appropriate for our newest winner.
Two authentic (well, we hope they are) Ashanti Fertility Figurines are on their way to Cathy. While typically used to promote the baby-making kind of fertility (don't worry Cathy, we're not wishing babies on you), they also are reputed to create other kinds of fertility, including the fertility of creative thought. Cathy is an artist by trade and we certainly hope that lots of creative ideas come along with them.
and our first winner is...Sue Schmidt! (Michael's mom) No, just because she's my mom and threatened to never let me back in the house doesn't mean we rigged it. Mom won fair and square. Hell, there were only 12 people entered.
So what does mom win? A limited edition, one-of-a-kind, truly authentic apron with the Statue of David plastered across the front. (And if you know anything about the Statue of David, you know the predominate feature of this particular item).
